Speech Therapy for Communication
Communication Deficits Can Leave You Feeling Frustrated and at a Loss
Communication relates to more than just talking (although that is important!). Here at Sandy Speaks Therapy, we can assist in increasing functional communication verbally or nonverbally (through use of alternative augmentative communication- AAC).
Communication deficits can occur for a variety of reasons; however, here at Sandy Speaks Therapy, we strive to find the least restrictive mode of communication for you or your loved one in efforts to promote the ability to communicate wants and needs, and decrease frustration. Let us help you find your voice.
Communication deficits can arise from:
- Traumatic Brain Injuries
- Strokes
- Autism
- Language Delays
- Myofunctional Deficits
- Neurodegenerative Diseases (e.g. Parkinson's, ALS, Dementia, etc.)
- Tracheostomies
- Cleft Lips/Palates
- Genetic Disorders
- Nerve Damage
Communication is the key to life. Imagine never being able to communicate again. That thought alone is isolating and devastating. There is hope.
Treatment Approaches
Sandy Speaks Therapy is able to provide in-home or virtual treatment options to best fit you and your family’s needs. Communication intervention largely depends on what is causing the communication impairment, as well as an individualized plan of care to find the best method of communication for that individual.
Many times, communication deficits are addressed through play therapy. Sandy Speaks Therapy is able to assist in obtaining a speech-generating device (SGD) as a form of alternative augmentative communication (AAC) when required.
In-Home Sessions

I am so grateful to Mikayla for teaching us to think outside the box and try new things.
Mikayla gave me some very helpful strategies and showed me how to focus on a couple at a time in order to not get overwhelmed. She answered all of my questions as the process continued and before long I could see a vast improvement in my daughter's speech. I cannot thank Mikayla enough for her guidance and patience in this process. She is second to none and I would recommend her services to anyone.
